EdWAN™ - Educational Wireless Area Network
A private LTE network built to give students direct access to their school's network from home.
What is EdWAN™?
EdWAN™ is a school district-wide, wireless educational network that provides enhanced connectivity to students who can't get or afford broadband at home. The network uses a Broadband Spectrum to transmit an LTE signal that blankets the entire city or county school district where every student & teacher can access the school’s existing network using a school issued smart phone, tablet, & computer.
Why is it Unique?
EdWAN™ does not provide students with unfiltered direct access to the public internet. Instead, students can access school controlled educational content at home as if they were in the classroom. Doing homework, conducting research, and participating in interactive assignments is performed at home no different than it is on the school's campus WiFi.
Why do you need it?
School systems want every student to use technology
to enhance their educational experience. They want all students
to access enhanced digital learning resources both in school
and at home. Unfortunately, within each school system, there are students that
either can't get broadband at home or simply can't afford it.
So in today's educational system, learning, research, and curriculum is all digital. A student's ability to get broadband at home has a direct and measurable impact on their ability to remain educationally competitive.
How does it work?
Towers equiped with LTE Nodes are placed at select schools within the district. Each LTE Node is connected directly to the school’s existing fiber network. Each LTE Node emits a 5-mile, wireless broadband signal to any school issued device. Any student / teacher that lives, within the district can only access educational content and/or authorized websites as if they were on school grounds. All without having home internet access.
What does it mean for my school system?
School systems across America are looking for innovative ways to offer enhanced educational resources to students in school and at home. Unfortunately, schools don’t have the financial resources to subsidize internet access at home. This is creating a void where those who can afford and/or can get broadband will have a significant advantage over those students who cannot. By enabling all students to have 24/7 access to educational content at home, school systems can effectively offer equal digital resources to all of their students. The ability to effectively leverage technology to prepare all students for the world’s digital economy requires equal access for all.
How can we pay for it?
EdWAN™ is a stand-alone LTE network that does not deliver commercial traffic to consumers. As such, we can assist your district in utilizing both public and private funds to support a district wide system.
